Sofa Table Before & After

This sofa table was all the rage a few years ago.  My daughter Erin bought
it a a local boutique, and they flew out the door.  Fast forward a few years,
and you can't give it away!  Whew, trends come and go!
It still is adorable, but it needs some new paint!

And some sanding

A little bit of filler

very little, because we want the glaze to go into the gouges!

This little table need to be free of dust, so I could paint it.
So I used my favorite big brush to clean it off and then used
a tack cloth to make sure it was clean!  If is isn't clean,
the paint can bubble or crackle.
That has happened to me and it's fixable, but not fun!

My favorite color right now is Blue Ocean Breeze so that is what I used!
I finished it off  with Ralph Lauren ebony glaze.

Isn't she lovely. . .
This is the best picture I had, so I hope you can tell how darn good it looks!

Vintage Robin Egg Blue Table Before & After

The Tag on this table said Rickety old table $15.00!

And Let me tell you it was wobbly,

All it took, to make it sturdy again, was turning it upside down and tightening the bolts!

My heart melted a little bit!

It had seen it's day, but how cute is this table!

I really like how the the two 6" leafs slide under the table for easy storage.
How smart is that. . .

I gave it a couple of coats of Robin Egg blue paint,
distressed the edges to look worn a little
and then  a coat of poly it for durability!

I could see this table as a craft table or a kitchen table!
Wouldn't it be fun to have a picnic outside on this. . .  dreaming!

                                                                                                       slightly distressed!

The weather here in Utah is perfect!
Let's hope it stays good for a few more weeks for the trick-or-treaters!

Turquoise Paint Color

A couple of years ago, I cleaned out my pantry and painted it a crisp clean white!
In the process of organizing it, I had this crazy Idea!  I had this old green hutch that was in a spare room, not being used, except to take up space!  I thought I could put it to good use, in my pantry to display my serving dishes. Then I could actually get to them  and when  done put them away .  I measured and remeasured to make sure it would fit, and was so excited when I hauled up stairs and it fit perfect!  It was functional, but not very pretty!  Fast forward - I was shopping at Jo-Anns in their clearance department, when I saw an beachy type box that was turquoise, distressed and stained.  Love at first sight.  I took the box over to the ceramic paint department.  I found a match and bought it.  Headed to Walmart and found a paint chip that matched the ceramic paint.  I had them mix it up and headed home.  By that night, this is what my old green Hutch looked like!.

I have painted a lot of furniture this color!
A few of the pieces you will find on my side bar under Turquoise!
So now you know how my crazy painting craze started,
with this an old green Hutch and the color Turquoise!!!!

Brand - Color Place
 Type -Interior Latex Flat
Color -Cozumel Aqua  91402
Stain -Minwax, Jacobean

I have had a lot of request for this color, and I am thrilled you love it as much as I do!

 Another Large HEAVY mirror!

It really is so heavy, I could harldy carry it outside to paint it!

It has such a great design,
I couldn't wait to see it painted!

It is going to  hang on the walls of   Covet Boutique !

Laura is doing such fun displays for her designer jeans, purses & accessories!

  Hot Pink!
Isn't she Pretty. . .
It looks like she is all dressed up for a Party!

Now a TIP for all you spray paint lovers!

When I paint a mirror, I don't tape it off, or put paper on it, I just spray!

It  will get overspray on the mirror, and usually a lot more than this!

Can You see the spray. . .

I spray it with windex, and wipe it with a paper towel!

    And Voila, It comes off!
Here it is after I glazed it and see there is not paint on the mirror!
It works!

I have primed and painted mirrors, and the sometimes the paint is thick!  It takes a little elbow grease, and 2,3,4,5 times spraying it with windex, but I would rather spend the time cleaning it, than taping it off!

Winner!

I had the wonderful opportunity to support my hubby, and see what takes place in his work life!  I attended a Women's Entrepreneur conference put on by his school.  I learned a lot, had fun, but mostly met some amazing women!  Wow, is all I can say, for the power of Women, and what they can accomplish!  When introductions were made, and I was asked what I do - Ahem, I have a hobby, I paint furniture!

Each room had a quote that was inspirational and encouraging. This is the only one I snapped a picture of!  I was seriously to busy soaking in all the great information that was being given out to women who are really really entrepreneurs!  They also served us breakfast and lunch - Yum!  The decorations were to die for!  They also had door prizes that were beyond belief!  I won one!  It is the Nook, and e-book reader!  Now, I can download all those books, that I have been wanting to read!

Warning - you may be getting book reviews, instead of Before & After's of Painted furniture!!

Before and After and a few tips!

BEFORE!
    Poor dilapidated desk!
Was broken and useless,
so I gave it a new life.
The very first thing I do, when I redo a piece of furniture is decide if I am going to use the original hardware or if i am going to replace it.  On this piece, I knew I was going to replace a couple of them.
The new hardware I was going to use, was a different size than the original!
No Problem!

I used Elmer's natural wood filler to fill the original holes,
and I let it dry really good!
I also used the wood filler to
fill the big gouges on the dresser.
I then used a 150 grit sand paper to lightly go over the whole thing!
If I am painting the furniture, I never take it back to the original wood.
If I am going to stain it, and take it back to the original state, I sand it completely.
with me. . .
Old pieces usually have some sticky spots, from stickers to finger nail polish etc.
I make sure these are cleaned off good!
with Goo Gone!
It works GREAT!
I usually start from the bottom of  the furniture,  I turn it upside down and make sure the bottom of the furniture is taken care of first.
I don't mean the underneath of the furniture,
I mean the bottom legs and trim, etc.
Now, as soon as I said that, I am showing you that instead of turning it upside down, I put it up high on a table,
so I could see and reach all the bottom of the desk.

Then when I turn it over to do the top, I don't ruin anything and the bottom looks as good as the top!
Understand. . . .

A few more tips - I finished this with minwax clear satin Polyurethane that is oil base.
Use water base Polyurethane on white or lighter paint, it won't yellow!

Labor of Love before & after Turquoise Armoire

 BEFORE

This Big Heavy Armoire had seen better days!
It was a little bit worn and outdated!
Until
some Turquoise paint and some stain turned it into
something
to
die
for!

                                                                                     MY NEW FAVORITE!

Besides being
GORGEOUS,
Look at all that room!

This took a little bit of time and a lot of hard work, but boy was it worth it!
I still am amazed at what some paint can do!
I am having too much fun transforming old worn out pieces of furniture into some useful and beautiful!
I hope your enjoying seeing these, and would love for you to try it yourself!
If I can do this, You can!

Before & After and some more projects!

My daughter Erin is the latest victim to the addiction of  giving old furniture a new life!
She says her heart starts racing when she enters the DI!
She is excited to see what treasure she might find!

She found this treasure for
$5.00!

Look at the detail!
She spray painted it with
Krylon Blue Ocean Breeze
Then sprayed the handles with a metallic silver!
She is going to use it for kids toys, in an unfinished basement!
She is going to have the best looking unfinished basement, because she has some more projects going as well!
Here is a little tease of something else we are working on!
A beautiful OLD table!
I stripped the top to stain and we painted the pedestal base!
Some chairs to die for -  to go with it!
They are almost done, but I was too excited to wait to show you!

I vowed I would not buy any more furniture, until I finished what I had!
It didn't last long!
On Saturday, Erin called me from the DI and said there was a dresser, I was going to want, and I did!
So I bought it!
Then while we were in my back yard working on this table and chairs, my son drove in and said there was a really nice Hutch sitting in our neighbors yard for sale.
So, we walked 2 doors down and this Hutch said $50.00 or best offer, our neighbor who knows us well, said we could have it!!!!
I paid her $25.00!

Heaven Help me - don't let me see anymore furniture!
Just kidding, I want it all!
