Mirror Mirror on the wall! Vintage Black Mirror

I had a storage Unit full of furniture. I really did.  I had a garage sale and sold everything except what I wanted to keep for me and mine (daughters)

I have mirrors

so many mirrors

My goal is to get them painted and hung.

I will do it!

but I have a crib, some frames, a lamp etc. etc. to get finished too!

#1 mirror done.

and hung!

It is a heavy old thing, and it was ugly.

The glossy black spray paint gives it a rich gorgeous new look!

I am a Lucky Girl!

If I was a gambling girl, I would go to Vegas, but I am not, because I don't like to loose my money. I am so lucky!  I walked into the D.I. thrift store and they were unloading a dresser.  Yay, don't bother putting in on the floor, just put it in my truck.  That was my first lucky day.  My hubby and I were coming home from Bear Lake.  We had a fun filled, hard working couple of days - staining a deck. 

One of those things that so badly needed to be done, but we knew it would be a lot of work.

 At his best - His hat and my T-shirt I slept in, he forgot his work shirt!

 We started early, but it didn't take long for the blazing sun to be  roasting us!

My job was the rail.  Tedious Tedious Tedious, but I am enjoy having a paint brush in my hand!

So proud, it looks so good!

If only we had time to sit and enjoy, but next time we will! 

This is what we used!

 Dead tired and anxious to get home, we passed the D.I. and Jay lost control of our truck, it pulled into the parking lot on it's own.  Ha Ha, we decided to make a quick swoop, Oh my, it was my  second lucky day.  Someone had just unloaded a truck of antiques.  Beautiful and still priced too high for this cheap, frugal girl.  I swooned and then found the real treasures!  An antique iron bed, priced at $10.00 and another wood antique bed priced at $15.00.  Now, remember I had a yard sale and cleared out my storage unit. . .  and I am not buying any more furniture.  It was Jay who said - LOAD THE TRUCK!  He has experienced thrift store shopping to know when a treasure is found!

This heavy old well made table  was in such great shape.

It just needed a face lift!

Before & After: Black table!

 I love it when I enter the thrift store and I don't have to hunt for a treasure, it is out in the open and waiting to be bought and brought back to life!  I spotted this table and loved the design.  It was in pretty good shape too. 

It needed a little cleaning, filled a few dings and dents, and a light sanding.

It was quick and easy to paint,  and I think the results are Great.

I love the shape!

The base is shapely.

The top, umm Love!

I feel sorry, that someone gave it away thinking it was no good any more!

Before & After Hutch & Dresser !

 OH HAPPY DAY!
Someone likes to paint with me!  Jake, my son is a college student, graduating this semester and applying to Law school.  He has a summer job lined up and is in need of money now!  So on a whim he asked me if there was anything he could paint.  Silly question. We got to work and it was so much fun with him.  First of all, I haul this furniture around and it was great to have a young strong young man helping!  Second, he LIKED it!  He liked to see how terrible it looked BEFORE a coat of paint, and he liked to see how great it looked AFTER!  3rd, we sold the dresser quickly, and he liked the money!  Whew - I am happy for him it sold!

This is how happy he was!  Ha Ha Ha!  O.K. now to the good part - Before & After!

It was a really nice dresser, but it had some water damage and needed some repair.  So we sanded and sanded and used Elmer's wood filler to fill the other dings and damage. 
See the Hurley Sweatshirt - that is him.

The dresser part is much easier to paint than the Hutch.

We used a Black Behr Paint with Primer

Some distressing - it hides some of the imperfections!

We put Jacobean minwax to finish it off !

 Not the best picture, but it really turned out great!

The sold dresser that made a very happy boy!

He painted a bed since and called today to ask if I was painting without him!

He may not be able to help me much, he got a real job,

tutoring French at the college.

It was fun while it lasted!

Before & After Chair

Last summer I painted this table and 4 chairs.
It is one of my favorite projects!  I still just like to look at it.
I took it to a boutique and a cute newly engaged girl bought it, she was so excited.

I particularly liked this retro wire chair.

I bought it at the thrift store for $3.00 and my lucky day I found it's twin!

I am hanging on to it this time, and it's going solo. 

I kinda liked the orange vinyl seat, but it is trashed.

It looked like it had been used for a stool, when someone was painting.
I always wonder who the previous owner was, and what their life was like!

AFTER!

It is all done ready to go in my craft room.

just gotta finish the turquoise Hutch!

The chair cost about $15.00 to refinish

1 can of Valspar gray spray primer, about $3.00

1 can of Valspar gloss black spray paint, about $3.00

Fabric cost $7.44 a yard, and I used less than a half, about $3.00

The chair cost $3.00

Throw in a little extra for spray fabric protector I already had!

I am happy because I have a minute to paint.

just a minute

The sunshine was out yesterday and we all had a taste of spring here in Utah.

But today we have

Snow!

I took advantage of the sun and with a lot of help from my helper

who I will introduce later,

we painted until we couldn't move.

I wanted to quit and he wouldn't let me

I want to jump and skip and holler when I am this happy about something,

like this to die for bed!

Can't you just see the potential. . .
